The Soukous Stars began in the late 80s and have been pleasing African music fans for the past several years. Soukous, the Congolese style that combines Afro-Cuban rumba rhythms with African jazz and dance is sung in a number of Congolese languages as well as Spanish. Originally formed in the late 1980s by the joint efforts of Lokassa Ya Mbongo and Ngouma Lokita, the Soukous Stars have worked with various musicians from many different backgrounds and styles. Over the years, the band has hosted top session players and singers including Nyboma, Madilu, Yondo Sister, Dally Kimoko and others who have all made their mark on this groups history. In 2003, the band won Best Soukous Entertainer Award at the 22nd Annual International Reggae & World Music.
